My Little Wish Box Review | BEAUTY

I feel like I have been waiting forever for this box to arrive, but I guess that’s why subscription boxes are so popular! Everyone loves getting a little surprise in the post. I was interested to see what the first box of the New Year would be like and this particular box always surprises me, as it has lifestyle products as well as beauty!

If you didn’t know what it was, My Little Box, is a subscription service where you receive 5 items (beauty and lifestyle related) for £14 (including P&P) a month. I have to say that I didn’t really feel anything for the design this month. It is cute, but it isn’t anything special. I hope they do another tin, because that was really useful! Anyway, onto the contents of the box.

The first two things at the top of the box was the Wish magazine and this lovely quote! I tried to read through the magazine but unfortunately did not find it interesting at all. In fact only one post called out to me (about the shape of your lipstick once you have used it a bit) but underneath that was this AMAZING diary. How beautiful is it! I absolutely love it and don’t want to even use it (of course I will) It is a hardback diary with good quality pages inside.

Next, were a lip balm and a Ren cleansing water. The lip balm looked promising but when I opened the top I could smell an almond-ish smell. A bit like a battenberg? (you know, that cake with the red and yellow squares) I am allergic to nuts but I am going to try it anyway and see if I react to it. The magazine had a segment in it which showed pictures of the shape of the lip balm once it’s been used a bit. Apparently it shows a lot about your personality, in the way that you apply your lipstick. My lipsticks normally end up with one side longer than the other! I have heard of Ren before but never tried any products so I look forward to trying this. I have never really heard of cleansing water either, so it will be interesting to use.

The next thing I spotted with this bag, which looked like it was stuffed with goodies! It wasn’t, but it did have one full size product in it, in the shape of a Garnier Miracle Wake Up Cream. In all honestly, I don’t really like things like this. It’s meant to get rid of wrinkles and keep your skin hydrated. I don’t know about anyone else but the more products I apply on my skin, the worse it feels! That’s why I just stick to the important things like cleansing, moisturising and toning. Anyway, if I don’t try it, I will pass it down to my mum or sisters as I am sure they will love it!

Last thing in the box was a little odd. I could not work out what it was when I was opening it, and even when I did open it, I couldn’t tell what it was! Eventually I worked out that the cards hold little bracelets on them which you can give to friends/family. There is also one for you. In all honesty, I don’t think I will be giving them out as they look tacky. I think the one for me looks better than the rest but I know I won’t be using it. I am gutted as I would have loved to get a nice bit of jewellery from this box.

I am disappointed in this months box unfortunately. The only thing I LOVED was the diary and everything else was OK. I don’t know if I am disappointed because last months box was amazing. I know that it can’t be perfect every month and at least I received something that I did like, so it’s all good!

Until next time!

Glossy Box January Review | BEAUTY

This month I was eagerly waiting for the Glossybox to arrive. I don’t know whether it was because it’s a new year and I was interested to see what they would include in the box, or just because I wanted new things to try! Regardless, I ripped the box open when it arrived!

So this is what I received in the January box.

Unani Dermo Defence Face Mask

Full Size £11.36

20160111_122222I don’t really have a lot of time to use face masks but I always like the idea of them. On reading the instructions though, I realised that I could apply this on the go and rinse it off after 10 minutes, so it seemed like a really easy mask to apply! I think that it worked quite well. You have to apply it a few weeks to really see results but I felt like my skin was smoother and clearer after the first application! I will definitely be using this every week and I believe I will purchase it as well. The fact that it came as a full size product is perfect and I love the simplicity of the packaging. The actual product itself is clear but almost like a gel so no one would see that you have a mask on!

Teez Cosmetics Oasis Gem Lipstick

Full Size £11.93

First impressions of this lipstick were actually good. How cute is the design! I have never heard of the company before but the actual colour of the lipstick and the packaging were brilliant so I was already excited to try it out. I then read the information on the little booklet that comes in the box. To my dismay, this lipstick contains coconut oil! (I am allergic) I was so gutted, as I really wanted to use it, but never mind. If you read last months Glossybox review, I received another product containing coconut and they exchanged it for something else. I can’t really be bothered to go through that again, so I will just give it to my sister! I will say though, the price is a bit expensive for a lipstick!

Angele Paris Red Nail Lacquer

Full Size £6.32

Last month I received such an awful nail polish but this month they made up for it! The pictures do not do this product ANY justice. It is amazing. I applied it as soon as I saw it in the box. I normally use a base coat first, then apply the nail polish on top. It was easy to use and just glided on with no problems. I found that two coats set the nail polish and a top coat was applied as well to lock it all in place. My nails started to chip about 5 days later. I am so impressed with this, as I have a baby so my hands get a lot of wear and tear! Oh, I should also mention that the drying time was VERY fast. By the time I had finished applying the nail polish on my right hand, the left was all dry.  The colour is a cherry red and has a really classic look to it. Really happy with this!

Madara Cellular Repair Serum

Travel Size £38.00

I am not a huge fan of applying serums and creams to my face. I have quite sensitive skin and using different products can sometimes be quite harmful for me. I wasn’t that keen when I opened the serum up and I haven’t used it. I will probably give this to my mum or sister, as it isn’t something that I would use. A full size version of it is quite expensive. I think it is meant to hydrate and repair your skin but I don’t feel like I need it!

Glossybox Eyeshadow in Glossy Mauve

Full Size £ 7.10

This is the first time I have seen a Glossybox product in their box! It looks really nice. The colour I received is mauve, so a dark plum kind of colour. I haven’t tried it yet as I haven’t really been able to match it with any outfits that I have worn. Purple is one of those eye shadows I feel you need to be careful with. It can make you look like you have been punched in the face! I have tried a purple smoky eye before, so I might just try it out using this eyeshadow.

This box was a great start to the year! My favourite will have to be the nail polish as I know I will be wearing it all the time. The worst would have to be the serum or the lipstick as I can’t use it!

Until next time!

Benefits Number 1 Selection Box | BEAUTY

Over the month of December, Boots had quite a few good offers on. One was a star gift, which consisted of a really good selection box on offer every month. When I spotted the Benefit box on for sale (£20) I had to buy it.

20151231_130758 (2)

You basically get a sample version of the number one products that Benefit sell. I have only ever tried out the mascara really, so everything else would be a first for me!

I have heard so many good things about this product. Everyone always raves about it so I tried it out. It did seem to instantly smooth out my skin and make it feel better but it didn’t keep the make up on. At the end of the day, I found my eye make up and concealer had faded just like it normally does.

I have actually already tried the mascara before and it 100% works. It gives you maximum volume and length. I really like building the coverage up with a few layers if I am going out! The only thing I dislike about this mascara, is that it is a PAIN to get off. For this reason alone, I end up only using it when another mascara has run out!

The High Beam is such a good, understated product. You apply it under your eyebrows and onto the cheeks and it gives it a bit of highlight. It really shapes up and highlights my brows which is where I have been using it. I love the applicator as well, it’s like a nail varnish brush.

I was excited to use this product as my biggest issue is my dark circles. I am forever trying to find ways to get rid of them. I dabbed this underneath my eyes a few times but other than feeling smoother, they didn’t seem to brighten anything up. I think I would have to use this a few times to get a good use out of it.

I’m not a huge fan of blusher. I don’t know if its because I don’t really know how to wear it properly or if it just doesn’t suit me that well, but I don’t normally buy them. I did like it though, it added a nice subtle gold shimmer to my cheeks.

This has to be my favourite from the box. I don’t normally get on well with gel eye liners but I actually love this! You twist the base at the bottom and wait until the gel comes out at the top. The top is then shaped in an angled way, so you end up with a much easier way to apply the eye liner! 100% will be purchasing this when it runs out.

Everybody uses and talks about the Hoola Bronzer, but it’s another product that I don’t really use because I’m not sure exactly how to use it correctly. It is very cute though in the sample size.

This concealer is magic. I love it. It actually made me realise that I am using the wrong shades on myself. I would normally go for a lighter colour but I really should be using the darker shade as it then naturally covers up my dark circles. Another thing I found with this concealer is that it’s easy to apply. As it’s not wet, you don’t get that streaky feel with it. It just blends straight away!

Until next time!

Happy New Year!

Every year since I can remember, my new year celebrations are literally sitting on the sofa with my family, watching the fireworks display on TV.

Last year I wanted to do something different and actually go to see the fireworks in London. No matter how hard I tried, I was unable to get tickets.

This year, I was very prepared and purchased tickets way in advance, so off we went! It is COMPLETELY different to how you see it on TV. We had to be at the gate entrance by 9pm – even though the fireworks obviously don’t start till midnight. In the end, it was a 2 hour car journey to London, a 10 minute walk to an overground train station, another 32 minute underground train Trafalgar Square, almost 2 hours walking and queuing up and finally 3 hours waiting in the freezing cold till midnight for the fireworks to start!!

It was quite a different atmosphere there, with music playing to keep the crowd warm and entertained. Everyone was huddled up, trying to keep warm. We ended up walking around to all the food stalls, just trying to pass the time! The actual fireworks display was beautiful. I only managed to get a one picture as I was so amazed by it, I just didn’t want to look away!

It was a brilliant night. I don’t think I would do it again but it was a great experience. Luckily we had booked a hotel for the night so we didn’t have to worry about getting home quickly.

If you were thinking about going next year, here’s a list of ten things to remember!

  1. Take a blanket with you as it is VERY cold! Even if you are wrapped up warm, the floor will be wet or cold so a blanket always comes handy to sit on!
  2. Take some snacks. Food is pretty expensive in London, so taking your own is always a better and more healthier option.
  3. Wear comfortable clothes/shoes. I thought I did, but jeans are pretty uncomfortable when you are trying to sit down on a floor!
  4. Take some toilet roll. If you need the loo, they only have portable toilets with no tissue paper, so take your own!
  5. On the same note, take some anti-bacterial hand wash. No explanation needed.
  6. Take a small bag you can sling across your body. This is much easier and safer to take with you as opposed to a handbag.
  7. Plan your journey in advance! We knew how to get there – we just didn’t work out how to get back and since most of the tube stations were closed, it took over 2 hours to walk to the next open underground and get back to the hotel. Plan in advance!
  8. Go to the toilet before you leave! If you are like me and don’t like public toilets, use the toilet in the hotel before you go. Or, like my husband,if you think you don’t need it and then you do, it’s pretty hard to find even a portable loo once you are outside of the area.
  9. Take as many pictures as possible. I really wish I had done this! I was just so tired and cold that I didn’t bother. I kinda wish I had though.
  10. If you have a contactless bank card, use it. Instead of an Oyster Card, contactless is easier and apparently cheaper.

Until next time!

December Favourites! | FAVOURITES

This is what I have loved in the month of December!

I am one of those mothers who didn’t really want to give her child a dummy (binkie, pacifier etc) but as E was ill and in hospital for her first month, they introduced it to her. The one thing that annoyed me for ages was that she would throw it out of her cot at night and then cry because she wanted it. It took a while but I finally invested in a dummy clip, from the same company that her bottles are from. I love it. It attached onto her clothing and keeps the dummy close to her. She also knows what it is now and loves it! Really good price and a lifesaver this month!

I purchased Minnie Mouse in Aldi, on a random shopping trip. E was happy when I gave it to her in the store and of course she wouldn’t let go of it so I had to buy it for her. It has usually been the toy that she needs with her at bedtime but this month, Minnie became the travel buddy! She comes everywhere with us.

This month we had to upgrade E’s car seat. It takes such a long time to find something you like, that looks good and will be comfortable for the next few years. We finally settled on the Maxi Cosi Tobi but it was near enough 200 pounds at Kiddicare. Earlier this month, I was walking past Mothercare with my hubby and he suggested popping into Mothercare to see what price they had the same car seat on for. We ended up buying it from there for 140 pounds! I love it, E loves sitting up and it will last us for the next 4 years!

I am so glad that I purchased this mat. It is lifesaving. Really. My floor is quite hard and a few times we have had some accidents with E falling and almost hitting her head. I decided to purchase something soft that she could play with as well as keep her safe and it does exactly that! The letters are easy to arrange and they look really nice in the room. I will be using this for a long time!

Only in the last 2 weeks has E become so attached to her blanket. It is quite cute to be fair but it’s a big thing to drag around everywhere! I had to add it to this months favourites as it is her favourite.

I have sworn by the Collection Fast Stroke eye liner for a number of years now. It is the best I have ever used and the price is so cheap. I heard so many bloggers and You Tubers recently talk about the Maybelline eye liner, so of course I had to try it. I cannot describe how amazing this eye liner is. It is actually better than the Collection one, because the brush is better. It is more precise so you make less mistakes and it glides on so easily. It’s a big favourite this month!

I normally don’t like programs like this, but this year I had to watch it as my husband loves it. I really enjoyed it actually and had to include it in my favourites as it was a big part of December. If you have never watched it before, a certain amount of celebrities are thrown into a jungle together, where they have to complete trials to get food and treats. The trials include all creepy crawlies, reptiles, etc and they are usually horrific. I only watched it this year because a few of my favourite celebrities were in it – Vicky from Geordie Shore and Spencer from Made In Chelsea.

I currently live in my work fleece. I have to wear uniform as part of my job (I work in a contact centre) and the fleece is SO warm that I have found myself staying in it when I come home from work. It is a little oversized, and has little thumb holes in the sleeves as well!

Still loving Justin Bieber this month. I’ve been playing his album non stop in the car and almost everywhere. Here in the UK, Love Yourself is currently Number 1 BUT I have started to love No Pressure! I genuinely disliked that particular song when I first heard it, but after listening to it a few times, it is now my favourite. I feel like Justin has taken over December!

I have never experienced Vlogmas before. I only really got into YouTube in the last year or so. Well, I got into it when I was on maternity leave and that was straight in the new year (2015) so I missed Vlogmas. This year though, everyone seems to be doing it and I am constantly catching up with videos. Currently I have 15 left to watch. There are a few firm favourites though. I love #24daysofzoella which is Zoe Sugg’s Vlogmas. I also really love Tanya Burr, Sprinkle of Chatter and Meg Says. This month, I just gravitate towards their videos first. They are all quite different from each other. With Sprinkle of Chatter you see Christmas prep with a child, with Tanya Burr it is more about going out with her friends and doing all the traditional Christmas stuff. With Zoella, you experience her festive personality and how she celebrates with her boyfriend and dog. Then Meg Says is more normal, chatty and fun! I am sad this it is now over and do think I will probably go back and re watch my favourite vlogs.

Until next time!
