The Scrapbook Of My Life by Alfie Deyes | BOOK REVIEW

I am a huge Alfie Deyes fan. A lot of people will probably have not heard of him but he is actually quite a big part of my life. Alfie is a British YouTuber and boasts a main channel of 5 million subscribers, a daily vlogging channel of 3 million AND a gaming channel of a little over 1 million subscribers. His main channel, Pointless Blog has a whole load of challenges and funny videos. I love his daily vlogs, in which he records his life.

The Scrapbook of my life 2

Alfie recently wrote a book called The Scrapbook Of My Life. It is literally that. A book full of stories about his life before he became a YouTube star. I pre-ordered the book and managed to get a signed copy, which I was so happy about. I mean seriously, he actually touched that paper! (fan girl moment!)

The Scrapbook of my life signed

I am sad to say that the happiness ended there. In fact, I was quite disappointed with the book. Alfie mentioned it was very much a scrapbook, so the font is all different, there are spelling mistakes that have been crossed out – basically it does look like an actual scrapbook. I love that about it and I love the cover. It has such a nice glossy feel to it, plus the red and gold looks pretty cool. What I didn’t like was the style of writing. I am a huge fan, so I purchased the book because I wanted to read about his life. I want to know what he was like when he was younger and fun memories he had. Unfortunately it is written in a way that is perfect for young children. I mean, the 11-16 range. I was getting frustrated when reading it, because it just sounded so… childish!

I know that a lot of his fans are actually girls in that age group, so maybe this way of writing was aimed towards that, but I am sure there are hundreds of other people in my age bracket as well! (Any 26 year old Pointless Blog fan’s out there?!) I want to read a book that flows nicely, that has humour and a serious element. Even being a scrapbook, he could have achieved that!

Another thing that I disliked even more than the writing style, was the blank pages. Alfie left blank pages on almost every other page, where you could fill in your memories. The idea was that it meant the scrapbook would be both his and yours. Whilst I smile at the thought, I didn’t buy a book to get blank pages in it. He mentioned in his daily vlogs that he would have a few, but I didn’t realise it was literally on every other page!

I am disappointed but I should have known better. I have purchased his other book – the Pointless Book – which you fill in the blank pages – and I thought most of it was quite childish as well. Regardless, I know he worked hard on it and it is signed, so I don’t regret buying it! I would recommend this to younger girls who I know will enjoy reading it.

Until next time!

Glossy Box March Review | BEAUTY

When I first saw the sneak peek of the March box, my heart sank. It was described as being a box which will make your skin glow. Immediately that made me think of face creams and serums which I really hate. I know some people enjoy it, but my skin is fine and I don’t need to keep adding more products to it! Once the box arrived, I opened it and was disappointed. It was pretty much what I thought, but I will try and review the products anyway! So, we have the standard pink box and this is what I received inside.

FULL SIZE £10.42

This product was included in the sneak peek, so we all knew we were getting it. It is actually quite pretty and the bristles are lovely and soft. It is made for highlighting and contouring – 2 things which I can’t really seem to get the hang of yet! However, maybe using this brush will make it easier. Since receiving the beauty blender in a different box, I have barely been using any make up brushes but I will have to give it a go and see if it works.

TRAVEL SIZE (Full Size £29.99)

I am so disappointed with the box this month. In what world did they think it was okay to include a sample that looked like it could have been handed over the counter, free? I have been so annoyed about the size of it – it is literally tiny – that I haven’t even bothered to use it yet. I had a look at the instructions and it does seem like it will work on my skin. I haven’t even bothered trying to use it because of how disappointed I am in the contents, but I will report back if it is good. The full size is quite expensive for a cream though.

TRAVEL SIZE (Full Size £28.81)

Another skin care product. When I receive too many of these I feel like it’s not worth the money you spend every month on the box. This is a facial serum. I find that my skin does not really suit serums and creams so I don’t think this will be used much. I will have to try it out and see if it does do anything at all.

TRAVEL SIZE (Full Size £16.89)

You can’t really complain when you get a shampoo and conditioner! Again, the size is pretty small but with haircare products, I feel that small sizes are good to try out. I haven’t used them yet and probably wont for a while, as I have been loving the Forever Living Shampoo and Conditioner set, that I only recently purchased. Also, you barely get any product in them, but of course I will try it out .

It seems that some Glossies received the Collection highlighter and some received the So Susan (the latter being more expensive) which I don’t think is fair at all. However, it’s pretty awful so I don’t think they are missing out on much. I tried to swatch it but I barely picked up any colour at all. The lighter shade is a bit better and works well on the top of the cheekbones but the dark shade does NOT work in the hollows of your cheek. I am quite disappointed with this and actually feel like the other one might have been better for me.

I am 100% disappointed this month.I did not like anything in the box. Despite that, I understand that not everyone is happy with every single box and this is probably the first time since subscribing that I hated everything I received. I think it was more about the sizes of the products and the fact that it was more skin care rather than more make-up based!

I feel like I have half heartedly typed up this review, so I hope next month is better!

Until next time!

My Little Bubble Box Review | BEAUTY

I ALWAYS look forward to this particular box, simply because I can never guess what they are going to include in it! The clues were all based around “popping” and “pop” which did make me think about certain make-up brands. It was actually so much more simple than that. Bubbles! However…  I am not sure how the theme worked with the products inside. If you didn’t know, My Little Box, is a subscription service where you receive 5 items (beauty and lifestyle related) for £14 (including P&P) a month.Onto the contents of the box.

If you have received My Little Box products before, there is always a lifestyle/home ware product which is noticeably missing this month, but I think this was still one of the best boxes they have released!

Every month, MLB send a print in each box. This  month instead of a print, I found a balloon! Obviously it goes with the theme but I also found it a bit odd. Nevertheless, it will come in use as E LOVES balloons, so she will enjoy playing with it! I had a little flick through the magazine as well, which was actually quite interesting this month! I found the section about how to use a blending sponge really helpful, as well as a random page about the history of Cadbury Creme Eggs! (which I now hate because they do not use Dairy Milk chocolate any more)

The first product I spotted was in this box. At first, I thought it was a hair cream or hair mask, as it says Happy Hair Day on the box. I was surprised to open it and find a hairbrush! It is so cute and a handy size. Even better, it actually works. On the back of the box, it tells you 3 ways you can use it. If you brush your hair with it after a shower, using circular motions, you don’t get that greasy roots look. The second is brushing your hair downwards, flipping your head upside down. This is meant to give it volume. The third is blow drying with the brush for softened locks. I have so far tried the 3rd way and it does work! My hair normally goes so frizzy when I blow dry it but when I used this brush it just had this silky, smooth look to it. Okay, it did go a little frizzy a few hours later, but I am happy with that!

Next up, another little box! When I saw the blending sponge, I will be honest, I was annoyed. I received one before in a Glossybox and didn’t like it. Still, I thought I would try it out. I followed the instructions on the box, used it damp and SERIOUSLY, WOW. This time it actually worked! I used it to blend my concealer in and I found that it didn’t leave any streaks, it blended quite well and actually stayed in place for almost the whole day. What I love about it, is the shape. It is small enough to get in the corners and the rounded bit at the end is big enough to give a flawless look to your face! Really impressed with this.

Next up were the products within the little pouch. Instantly I was excited when I saw that there was something from Givenchy, something from Essie and of course a My Little Beauty own branded product! I’ve said it in a previous post, but the little pouches are so handy! I have used one to store my contact lenses in, as I wear dailies. Another is used to store my every day eyeshadow/brow palettes. They are so much more re-usable than the actual box itself.

I used the nail polish straight away. I have never owned an Essie nail varnish, but I see people wearing it all the time. The colour looked perfect – a simple black with a hint of glitter. I used a base coat first, then started to apply it and started to notice something it. There were bits in it! The glitter was actually more 3D, and it stuck out on the nail. At this point, I felt a bit cringey. With a baby, it’s difficult to wear nail polish that isn’t smooth. After applying a top coat, it still didn’t have that smooth feeling and I was disappointed. I did however, have a few people complimenting it, so I guess it does look good? I’m not sure if I will wear it again though and I definitely would not be buying it at £7.99.

I knew the Givenchy product would be a mascara, just based on the size of the box. It looked pretty cool. Since I have discovered the Lash Sensational mascara from Maybelline, nothing ever comes close, so I was not expecting much. How wrong was I! I know this is a sample size, but I actually really liked the fact that it was small. I could reach ALL my lashes, with an even coat. It didn’t clump, I felt like I got a really good amount of volume and length. I forgot I was even wearing mascara and when I came home from work and looked in the mirror, it looked exactly the same as it did when I first applied it in the morning! Really pleased with it because it FINALLY coated my bottom lashes! It is £25 for a full size product, so I don’t really know if I would purchase it, as that is quite expensive!

The final product is a lip/cheek tint.  I received a similar product in a past Glossybox and NEVER used it, as it looked a bit weird. The brush looks like a nail polish brush and actually, that is what I originally thought it was!  This one is called a Bubble Blush and you can apply it on your lips or on your cheeks (obviously!) I quite like My Little Beauty own products as they do work. I am not too keen on tints though and I don’t particularly like the colour. This might be something that I pass along to one of my sisters!

This box was SO MUCH better than last month, as I can use every single product (bar one, maybe!) It’s hard to pick a favourite. I am using all of the products other than the Bubble Blush, so I can say I like that one the least! I am sure a few of these will be in a favourites blog sometime soon! To subscribe to the box or for more information, visit the website here

Until next time!

Growing Up… and cleaning! | RAMBLINGS

When I was younger, I used to get annoyed at things my mum did because I didn’t understand her reasons for it. I used to say that when I’m older, I won’t do things like that. Isn’t it weird how you end up then doing those exact things? I don’t mean life changing things. For example, cleanliness. Mum used to shout till she was blue in the face, as my room was ALWAYS messy. I liked it that way, I knew where everything was. My room was quite big when I lived with my parents, so I enjoyed making it more cosy. Now that I have moved out, married AND have a child, I am completely the opposite. I can’t stand it. It makes me sick to see so much mess. I’m not too fussed about E, because she’s only 16 months. She is still a child, she will make a mess. It’s the husband I am more annoyed about, because he is so messy. He doesn’t clean up after himself, so there is always food left out, plates never washed, nothing is ever cleaned. The hob is greasy and stained after he cooks,  the bathroom is AWFUL. The worst room has to be our bedroom though. I can’t even go into it sometimes, just I just feel so sick and anxious.

I don’t know if I am developing some form of OCD here. No matter how much I clean, it just seems to get messy again straight away. Sometimes I feel like a maid, just constantly cleaning and tidying up. Is this what Mum felt like? Every time I build the courage to tackle an area and clean it, I feel better. For me, that means some home improvements. Our carpet in the bedroom needs to be changed. Once we do that, it will instantly look better. My husband however, thinks I am just wasting money and that I have nothing better to do.

Even whilst writing this post, I feel so anxious about it. How do I stop feeling like that!?

Until next time!

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare | BOOK REVIEW

Oh my Angel. Wow. Initially, I was just going to review the first book in The Mortal Instruments series but I ended up reading all 6 in 2 weeks. I literally could not put the books down. In this review, I will talk about the series as a whole.

My sister had all the books and used to go on about it all the time, but for some reason I just didn’t get round to reading them. I was browsing on Netflix for something to watch and came across Shadow Hunters, the TV drama based on these books. Honestly, it was shocking. I thought the acting was awful but the story intrigued me. I then borrowed the first book from my sister, fell in love and now own and have read all 6 books.

The Mortal Instruments is a 6 book series about Clary Fray and the world she discovers. Clary thinks she is an ordinary girl, trying to get into art school and arguing with her mother. Out at a nightclub she finds herself in the company of some strange people and along the way finds out that she was never ordinary at all. Clary is a Shadowhunter. Part human, part angel – to protect the world from demons. When her mother goes missing, Clary’s world changes forever.

It’s quite a complicated world. The characters themselves are so intense and they have so many depths to them. You have Clary who is such a likeable character in my eyes. Normally in other books I hate the female lead, who always acts like she needs to be in the middle of everything. In this series, not every chapter is about her. Her love interest and male lead in the book is Jace. 100% my favourite character. He is all the male leads you have ever known, rolled into one. Then you have Simon, Clary’s best friend. I didn’t like him at first but started warming to him as I kept reading more about him. He’s a normal human being who gets pulled into all the drama. Then you have Isabelle, Alec and Max – Jace’s siblings. My favourite character overall has to be Magnus Bane. He is a warlock and also happens to be bi-sexual. I just love his personality and how funny he is.

I think what stood out to me in this series was the humour. The author writes in such a fluent way and she had me laughing out loud to so many different parts of the book. It’s dripping with sarcasm! Sometimes I find myself skip reading descriptive parts of books. I love getting to the point, reading the dialogues (which didn’t go in my favour when Prim died in the 3rd Hunger Games Book and I didn’t realise because it wasn’t in a dialogue!) but I enjoyed reading about the different dimensions, the descriptions about the Shadow Hunters home etc.

I have now purchased the Infernal Devices trilogy, which I believe Cassandra Clare wrote as a prequel. I am sure that I will love it as much as I love The Mortal Instruments and I think I may even go back to Netflix and carry on watching the series, just because I miss the characters so much.

Until next time!

Forever Living Products Review | BEAUTY

I first noticed Forever Living when I was selling Usborne Children’s Books. I would see them at every event that I went to and there were so many people that were representatives! Regardless, I wasn’t interested as it was all health products. Recently though, my cousin’s husband joined the company and invited me and my sisters to a home party. I will be honest, I was only going to show my support for this new venture – I know what it’s like to try and get people involved in something you believe in!

In the end, only myself, my 2 sisters and another lady made it to the party. The couple that were showing all the products were so informative, but funny at the same time, that it made me interested. As they showed all the different products, we were told how good it was for you, what it did, what it was made from and multiple uses for it! Needless to say, I spent a fair bit of money. I thought I would try it out for a few weeks and report back on my findings!

So, this is what I purchased:

Aloe Vera Gelly

I purchased this product simply because I was told that it helps with itchy skin. It is mainly for bruises, burns and irritation. You can even swallow a bit to help with a sore throat but I suffer from itchy skin. I’m not sure where it came from, but after my pregnancy, my skin constantly feels like it’s on fire. My legs are especially bad and I itch so much that they are covered in bruises. I also have irritation on my c-section scar. It’s pretty big and the skin around it hurts. So I tried this on my scar first. The gelly smells really nice and is clear. I only used a pea sized amount but instantly felt relief. The gel is soothing like a medicinal cream would be, but without that medicine-type smell. I have been slowly trying it on my legs, first to get rid of the bruises. So far, they are still there and unfortunately my legs do feel itchy still, but maybe this is something that takes time?

I know that when I apply the gel onto my skin, it instantly soothes – but not for the whole day. I’m hoping that my skin will start to recognise it and eventually it will work for longer.

I would never normally buy roll on deodorants, but at the party I was told that this not only makes you smell nice and stops you sweating, but it also helps calm down irritation after shaving. I don’t normally sweat a lot, but at work the air conditioner is ALWAYS broken, so it is always hotter than Egypt in the office. That is when I normally notice I am sweating, under arm. I used this one day to trial it out and honestly, my underarms were dry ALL day. It smells lovely and I did a little sniff test at the end of the day to find that it still smelt so nice! It’s a pretty big bottle so I know this will last me a long time!

Shampoo and Conditioner

This is another product that I saw in the brochure and decided to order. I was getting fed up with the fact that my current shampoo was making my hair feel dry and straw-like. I  was looking for a change and I am so glad I purchased these! They are fantastic. The shampoo smells lovely and lathers up quite nice. It’s easy to apply (obviously!) and washes out quickly. After the first use, I could already feel like my hair was shiny and healthy looking! I purchased the conditioner because – well, just because I thought I might as well. I’m quite funny with conditioner. I either never remember to apply it or I can’t be bothered. So far, I have been applying it every single time! You need a tiny amount and it instantly smooths and hydrates the hair!

100% will be purchasing both these products again!

I always think most toothpaste is the same. Some of them can give you whiter teeth, others just clean them, but they all do the same over all job. The only reason I purchased this was because 1. My toothpaste was running out and 2. It smelt DIVINE! After trying it out, my thoughts are still the same. It does make my mouth feel fresh, it smells lovely, you only need to use a teeny tiny amount BUT it doesn’t have a toothpaste taste? I actually quite like the taste of toothpaste so unless this works wonders on my teeth in terms of brightening, I probably won’t purchase it again.

Moisturising Lotion

At the party, we were shown two different moisturisers. Both did the same thing but one was heavy and one was light. I preferred the light one but somehow manager to order the heavy one! Since it didn’t do anything different to the other one, I decided to keep it. I apply it every morning and noticed quickly that I only had to use a tiny bit to keep my face moisturised. It has quite a nice smell to it and doesn’t leave my face feeling wet. After a week of using it, I noticed that I had dry skin under my eyes. I wasn’t sure if it was caused by the lotion, or a concealer that I think may have expired – in the end I realised it was another product! What I did notice was that this lotion helped combat the dry skin in the end. I’m undecided whether I want to order this again or not. If I do order it again, it will be the lighter textured cream!

Aloe Lips

This product is the only one I have used before and already love. It’s simply a lip balm that does everything it is meant to do and more. It moisturises your lips immediately after application. If you cracked lips it will heal them. It does not leave a sticky feeling, neither does it soak away into your lips. I LOVE how my lips look when I apply it, as they just have a healthy glow. The taste isn’t so bad either! Like all the Forever Living products, you don’t need to apply much and it goes a long way. I will be purchasing this and probably a few tubes as I would like to keep one at work!

Eye Make Up Remover

I used to use the No7 Eye Make Up Remover for over 5 years until I got tired of the oily residue left behind. They didn’t do an oil free remover so I ended up moving to the Simple facial wipes. This then left a harsh scrubbed feeling on my skin. I saw this in the Brochure and decided to try it out. I have found that it feels very gentle on the skin. It is also really easy to use – dab a bit onto some cotton wool and swipe it on your eyes to remove the make up. It genuinely removes most of the make up in one go. One negative I have about this product is that it doesn’t fully remove the mascara. I love how you only have to use a tiny little bit and it still does a good job and most importantly, there is no residue left on your face! After a week of using it, I started to find that my skin around my eyes was ridiculously dry. I knew it was something new that I was using and narrowed it down to this product. Due to that, I have asked to return the product for a refund as it did not suit my skin.

I have had quite a good experience with the Forever Living Products and some things are definitely better than others. I find that the gelly really does soothe any irritation on my skin and the shampoo is by far my favourite product.

Until next time!

February Favourites! | FAVOURITES

This is what I have loved in the month of February!

Disney Jnr Channel/Nick Jr Channel

E does love a bit of TV, especially in the morning. She has always watched TV shows on YouTube and then the odd show on Tiny Pop/Cbeebies as we only had the Freeview channels. Recently we got a free upgrade and now get more kids TV and she is loving Disney Junior and Nick Junior. In all honesty, so am I. There are some amazing shows like Ben&Holly’s Little Kingdom. She loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which has now given me ideas for her 2nd Birthday! (even though it’s not till October!)

download (1)

Nicka K Eyeliner

I mentioned this in my latest Glossy Box review and it has been a firm favourite this month. In fact, I think this will remain a staple in my make up collection for a while! It is an eyeliner but I actually use it as a brow pencil! My brows are quite full anyway, but I have natural gaps. I love the fact that the pencil is so soft and the strokes are so natural looking. One thing I have found with my other eyebrow pencils are that they don’t last the whole day. This product lasts and my brows stay in place all day.

Forever Living Lip Balm

I will be doing a review on this soon, but I have been using this lip balm since I got it (about a week ago) I love it. It’s made with Aloe Vera, which is the whole concept behind Forever Living. I just love the fact that when I apply it, it instantly moisturises my lips. It is not sticky and it doesn’t make my lips dry either!

Suits is back!! I am loving it so far. SPOILER ALERT! Mike has been caught but who sold him out? I love TV shows where I don’t know where the storyline is going. This is one of those shows. Harvey is a pleasure to look at and he is just an amazing character and an amazing actor. I am not really a fan of Rachel but I love Donna! For anyone who doesn’t watch Suits, it’s about Harvey, a successful lawyer, who hires Mike as his associate. Mike however, is just a guy with a really good photogenic memory but no law degree. It’s overall funny with some amazing actors!

City Of Bones (The Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare

I was looking for something new to watch on Netflix and spotted Shadow Hunters. I saw that it was the book adaption of the famous The Mortal Instruments books. The acting was dry and a little bit annoying but the story was really intriguing. I borrowed the first book from my sister as I didn’t want to go out and invest in the full set if I didn’t enjoy the first one. It is absolutely amazing. I have not been able to put it down and I am sure I will be doing a review on it. I love all the characters and I actually prefer the flow of events in the book, compared to the TV show. Jace is a VERY interesting character and I prefer him over the female lead Clary.

This is how I know I’m of a different generation, where I cannot understand something as simple as Snapchat. Everyone has been using it for AGES but even though I had the app and enjoyed watching everyone’s snaps, I was a little shy on using it myself. This month, I broke my Snapchat virginity and started using it on a daily basis. I love it! I love making a little story out of my day and including things I would normally share on Facebook.

Fetty Wap

I have been loving Fetty Wap this month! I’m not sure why, as I have loved his music for a while, but I heard 679 after a long time and that has been on repeat for ages! I know that he barely talks sense and his music is all about girls but I love the beat and the catchy “yeaah baby!”

Zayn Malik – Pillow Talk

I never thought Zayn Malik was the best singer in One Direction and when he left the band, I wasn’t that bothered. When he split up with Perrie though, I was quite annoyed. His new song came out this month and it was okay. I then heard it on the radio almost every day at work and it grew on me! I love it now. It has such a catchy tune, catchy lyrics and you have to admit that his voice is actually really good.

Snakehips – All My Friends

I heard this song on the radio and I thought it was Miley Cyrus for some reason. I’m not sure why I love it, since it’s about clubs and drinking. I don’t do any of them so I don’t relate to the song. I still love it though. I have been listening a lot to it this month!

Alessia Cara – Here

I have been listening to this song EVERYDAY on the radio. I absolutely love it. This month has been pretty big for music favourites and I couldn’t leave it out. What makes this song different from other music is the lyrics. It sounds like she wrote it and it’s a conversationalist type of song. This time I do relate to it, as I find myself in places I don’t really want to be and I always wonder what I’m doing there! Definitely worth listening to!

More Marcus

I have been subscribed to Marcus Butler for a while now. Well over a year at least and I love his videos. He has a second channel called More Marcus which was mostly daily vlogs. Over time, I started to watch them last and eventually started taking them out of my watch later queue. Marcus suddenly then changed his format and this channel started to get some amazing content. Reaction videos, challenges AND vlogs. I absolutely love it and I’ve been watching it regularly this month. I thought I would include it in my favourites because he released a parody music video, which then made at number 14 in the UK Top 40 Charts! It’s called I’m Famous and features Connor Maynard.

Yankee Candle

One of my friends went to America for Christmas and bought me back a Yankee Candle as a gift. I have never really been into candles in all honesty. I love the idea of them and love watching YouTube videos where people talk about them, but I have never really lit one constantly. I absolutely love this though. I light it almost every day and I just love the homely kinda smell that it gives off. It adds a bit of warmth and just makes me feel good, so it is a huge favourite this month!

Until next time!
