My Little Coconut Box | BEAUTY

I was quite intrigued to see what I would get in my My Little Box this month. Last month was quite good and with a summer theme, I didn’t know how they would top it. For some reason, this month I didn’t even visit the My Little Box Facebook page, to see what hints they were giving about the July theme. Imagine my HORROR when I opened the parcel to find that this month’s theme was COCONUT!!!

For those who don’t follow my blog and know from previous reviews, I am actually allergic to coconut. It’s quite annoying as coconut is healthy and good for you. It also happens to be a key ingredient in beauty products AND it’s completely on trend right now. *sigh* So, my heart sank and my expectations dropped before I had even opened the box.

So this is what I received this month:

2016-07-11 16.53.36

Regardless of the theme, I have to admit that the box does actually look quite pretty. Unfortunately, I won’t be keeping this one as it just annoys me and reminds me of how I am missing out on coconut!

2016-07-11 16.46.32

The very first thing in the box was the usual print. It seems quite funny to me now, but I was looking at every single item slowly and wondering whether the next would be related to coconut or not! The print is actually really pretty but I just don’t see any use for it, so I’m afraid it will go in the recycling bin!

I love when MLB wrap the products up so you can’t see what they are straight away. Obviously this one says passport holder on the front, but I didn’t actually see it straight away and didn’t know what was inside. I love the envelope and the bow on the back is such a pretty touch! Even better than that, is the actual passport holder. Look how cute it actually is. I LOVE the print. It feels so summery but at the same time, I would keep my passport in it for any season. The quality seems really good and my passport does look good inside. I am actually really happy with this product, as I was looking to purchase one. I am due to go on holiday in a few months and knew that purchasing a passport holder would be ideal in the long run. Now I don’t have to!

The next item also came wrapped up in a box. I thought it might be make up of some sort, but then I saw the Stella&Dot logo on the side and knew that it would be jewellery. I was pleasantly surprised at the bracelet as it’s really cut! I love the little tassle at the end and the gold is really pretty. Obviously I went to try it on straight away and then came the issues. Firstly, I couldn’t get it on. The size is REALLY teeny tiny so it’s hard to slip on. I then undid the clasp and tried to put it on, which did work. However, I couldn’t get the clasp to hook on. Whilst trying to do that, the other end of the chain broke and I had only had it for 5 minute. How disappointing! I did email Customer Services and they kindly arranged for a replacement to be sent out to me, so that was quite nice!

Okay, onto the beauty products now!

2016-07-11 16.49.10

So far I had gotten away with products that did not contain coconut. My joy was short lived as along comes this face mist. It is a My Little Beauty own product and it’s basically after sun in a mist form. This would have been a PERFECT product to take on holiday with me, had it not been for the pure coconut in it. I knew straight away that I would not be able to use this.

2016-07-11 16.49.43

Onto the second product and would you look at that. ANOTHER product containing coconut. This is a perfume, from Yves Rocher. I was quite annoyed that I couldn’t use it, but I will be passing this along to one of my sisters, or maybe a friend at work. It is a sample size, but it’s also quite a generous sample. I like the packaging, but I can’t really use it!

2016-07-11 16.49.58

The last beauty product is a hand gel. At first I was disappointed because it’s quite a boring product to get. After looking at the info cards, I changed my mind as this would be perfect to take on holiday. Unfortunately, I then spotted the Coco Rico sign – this contains pieces of coconut. So, all 3 beauty products were part of the Coconut theme.

As a bonus item, MLB also sent a sample of this oil. It is meant to help dry and damaged hair. It does look pretty good and I have had a look through the ingredients, which do not show coconut extracts in it, so that is great news! I have not tried it out yet, but will report back on whether it made a difference to my hair or not.

I feel quite split about this box. On one hand, 3 products are completely worthless to me. I cannot use them as they contain coconut. I am annoyed about the fact that they were all the beauty products. On the other hand, the other 2 lifestyle items were really well though out. The value of them is more than the whole box. If it wasn’t for the fact that the bracelet broke, I would actually still be satisfied with this months box.

Birchbox July Review | BEAUTY

This month, the Birchbox arrived later than normal! Since I joined, they have always sent the box in the first week of every month. This time, I was waiting two weeks! Needless to say I was VERY excited when it came through the post. I have also been thinking about cancelling my subscription, just simply because I subscribe to 3 different boxes and I don’t really need to! More on that later. I thought the design of this months box was very cute.

2016-07-09 18.25.41

Onto the contents of the box!

2016-07-09 18.29.58

LOC Millie Ultra Gloss Lip Pencil in Bohemian Rose

RRP £9 (full size)

2016-07-09 18.28.31

All subscribers knew this box would include this lip pencil, designed by Millie Mackintosh herself. I was intrigued to see what the formula would be like and how long lasting it would be. Firstly, I love the packaging. I think the LOC brand looks so expensive (and it really is not) plus the shade that Millie picked is actually really nice. I normally don’t gravitate towards pinks because I am a little darker skinned, so sometimes it washes out my lips. However, I love this product. The formula is creamy and very long lasting. I wore it for work and it stayed put the entire day. It is a little sticky when first applied, but then you can barely feel it. I think I will be investing in some more colours and the matte lip pencils as well!

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day In Shower Treatment

RRP £9.99 (full size)

2016-07-09 18.27.38

All subscribers were also given a choice of which full size John Frieda product they wanted in their box this month. You could pick the in shower volume treatment, or the Frizz Ease Primer. I already own the Frizz Ease, so I decided to go for the volume treatment. Unfortunately, I did not get very far with trying it out as I could not get the pump to work. I have twisted it in every direction I can think of, but nothing comes out of the pump. The only way I can get any product out of it, is to actually unscrew the cap and turn the product upside down! I will try to get my husband to have a look at it for me, as I may be doing something wrong. Still look forward to trying it out though. It seems pretty easy – shower and condition hair. Then apply 3-4 pumps of the product onto the roots and underside of hair. Wait 3 minutes, then wash out!

Nails Inc.

RRP £15 (sample size)

2016-07-09 18.28.16

I really enjoy getting nail polish in my box, because I love it. Nails Inc are such a good brand and not one I would normally buy, due to how expensive they are. I was a little annoyed at the teeny tiny sample size that was sent this month. I was even more annoyed at the colour. It’s a horrible pale pink, that will 100% look bad on me, as my skin is a little darker and this type of pink does not suit me. The icing on top of the cake was when i tried to open it to try out. I could not get it open. This was different to the John Frieda product as the only way to open it is to unscrew the lids and the lid will not budge. I went onto Birchbox’s Faceboook page and found that some other people had the same issue. I have sent them a message now, to see if I can get another one. Disappointed in this!

Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water

RRP £15 (travel size)

2016-07-09 18.27.59

In the first Birchbox I received, I was sent a full size Bioderma Micellar Water, which was one of the best things I received from them. I am almost at the end of it now – meaning it has lasted me 5 months – so I was happy to get another brand to try out! I haven’t tried it yet, but the reviews on the brand look really good. If it works, I will probably buy it from the Birchbox shop itself. It’s also a good size to take on holiday.

Elemis Hydra Boost Day Cream

RRP £39 (travel size)

2016-07-09 18.27.48

I knew I was not going to get away with not getting a cream. I have so many samples just sitting around, waiting for me to try out. This will just be added to that box. I currently do not have a good skincare routine, so I need to sort that out before I can try out day creams. You are normally meant to use them after cleansing. I will have to report back on this. The sample size is quite good though, as its small enough to take in a travel bag but big enough to try it out properly!

This box was quite a good mixture. They covered skincare, nails, make-up, hair and face. Obviously I was disappointed with 2 products not opening(!) but I will try and get that all sorted out. I still need to browse through the Birchbox shop and buy something with the points I have accumulated and I also am not sure whether I want to stick with the subscription or not. Having said that, this month I will use every single product, so it isn’t really THAT bad. Next months sneak peek is a Birch BAG which seems interesting!

June Favourites! | FAVOURITES

I feel like I haven’t blogged in ages! Last month was absolutely hectic and I haven’t had any time until now to post my June favourites, even though we are in July now! Anyway, this is what I have loved in the month of June.

BABY Animals

This month E has been into all types of animals. She is getting older and at 20 months, she is noticing animals. We have 2 cats at home and she absolutely loves them. She will follow them around, play with them and just love them. I think it’s so cute and even though my cats are both adult cats now, they still don’t mind playing with her. I have noticed it more this month, but she is also really into dogs! Every time we go to a friends house and they have a dog, you can see her eyes light up. I love the fact that she is into animals because as a child, I never had a pet. I didn’t understand the love for an animal and I am happy that she will.

BOOKS Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

This book has been made into a film this month, but for some reason, I had just not even read the book ( I 100% want to see the film!) My sister purchased it and was so emotional after reading it, that I had to read it myself. Me Before You is about a young woman who loses her job and doesn’t know what to do with her life. She ends up taking the only available job as a carer for a man who was left severely disabled after a motorcycle accident. This story as about their lives and how they combine. It is beautiful. I cannot describe it, in any other way. Regarding the story line, I have read many books with the same one. For me though, this book stood out. It is written beautifully. Every single character is likeable. I don’t really know who I would pick as a favourite. I felt sorry for Will (the disabled man) because of his situation, but I also loved Thomas (the main characters baby nephew!) If you haven’t read it already, I would totally recommend it. It is a perfect book.

Big Brother 2016

Big Brother is finally back and I am loving it. I watched Big Brother back when Davina was the  presenter but I only watched the launch night and the eviction shows. After I got married, my husband was a huge fan, so I would watch it with him and now I love it. If you have never heard of it, Big Brother is a reality TV show, where 12 people are thrown into a house together with no communication from the outside world. When it first started, it was a social experiment and has now just turned into entertainment. I think I featured the Celebrity version in a favourites post a few months ago. This time round, it’s just normal people. I just love the personalities and the drama.

Devious Maids

I just started watching this show and I am in love already. My little sister kept telling me to watch it but for some reason I kept putting it off. (Like I did with Suits, Switched At Birth, Once Upon A Time – I should really listen to my sister) I was looking for something to watch the other week and came across Devious Maids, on Sky Box Sets. Since I have all the episodes, I thought, why not! I loved it from the first five minutes. Devious Maids is about 5 maids who look/clean after rich families. The show follows the main 4 maids after the 5th one is murdered. The maids are all latina, which is pretty cool. Eva Longoria produced the show and you can tell, because it is so much like Desperate Housewives. She has even used some of the same actors! Even so, I like the story it tells. The maids are hilarious and each have their own issues. There is a mother and daughter – the daughter Valentina, is in love with her employers son and the mother, Zoila, is trying to protect her. Then you have Rosie, who is a maid for a famous couple and she is trying to bring her son to America. Next is Carmen, a wannabe singer, who is a maid for a famous singer and is trying to get him to listen to her music. Finally, Marisol, who is looking after 2 families  and doesn’t seem like she is actually a maid…

It’s awesome, so watch it!

I am currently typing up this post in my PJ’s. They have become my best friend during this month. As I am on holiday from work for most of the month, I tend to not bother with getting changed. I just keep changing into different PJ’s but not in day clothes. They are just so comfortable and I own so many pairs. I actually think that I have a bit of an obsession with owning different types of PJ’s! At the moment, my favourite is probably the Harry Potter ones. By the way, I get all of my pyjamas at Primark, because that shop is so cheap and so awesome for PJ’s!

APP Cooking Tale

I first started playing this game on Facebook. It is another cooking game where you have to serve different dishes and meet different goals every level. I loved it but it was hard to play on my laptop – too slow and I would just get annoyed. This month I found it in the Play Store and was overjoyed. I absolutely love it. I pretty much play it at least a few times a day and love the challenges. Some levels are easy but honestly, most of the levels are ridiculously hard to play. It is free and well worth getting!

MUSICGnash ft Olivia O’Brien – I hate you, I love you

I haven’t listened to a lot of music this month, but this particular song does stand out. At first, I didn’t like it because I thought the lyrics were weird. Then, I actually listened to it properly and the lyrics are what makes this song so good! It is such a realistic thing that they are talking about and the melody is really good. I have never heard any other song from both artists, so it is good to find something new.
