New Year, New Me?

Everyone starts off the new year with resolutions but I don’t really get on with those! I’m quite flakey and don’t really finish things that I have started. It did get me thinking though, that even though I don’t always complete the task to the end, this isn’t a good enough reason for me not to at least try. So, I’ve been thinking long and hard (literally came up with this in a day) and I have come up with the main things that I really want to focus on this year. My list is mostly about improvement, for myself and my soul!

1. Drink more water

This is quite an important one, but I really don’t drink enough water. Let’s be honest, I don’t drink anything AT ALL. From today, I decided I will drink the right amount that I needed to, to at least feel and look more healthy.

I downloaded an app called Drink Water. It asked me to choose my gender, weight and the times I am awake, then told me I needed to drink 1750ml of water as a minimum. It reminds me every hour to drink some more and it is actually quite encouraging!

2. Pray more regularly!

Another big one, but this is more for my peace of mind and soul, rather than being healthy. I used to pray often when I was younger but after I got married, things got in the way and I really have neglected this part of my life. It is such a big part of who I am, I knew that this needed to change and in my head I would always say “I’ll start tomorrow, I’ll start next week” but that timeline just kept moving. Before you know it, it’s been years!

I found another app to help me keep motivated and also most importantly to remind and track how many prayers I have read in the day. It is called Salaat Tracker and is pretty simple to use. There could definitely be more improvements, like adding a section for women when they cannot pray, but otherwise it does the job!

3. Don’t spend any unnecessary money!

This is a big one! I completely waste money. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the money is spent on things that I really want, however I just keep spending it, thinking that it will make me feel happy. I need to change that mindset and try and get rid of any debts I have before I can go back to spending freely! I have tried LOTS of budget apps, finance apps, daily spending etc and to be honest, none of them have worked for me.

My younger sister shared a post from someones twitter, which was a “No Spending Challenge” and told me she was going to do this for January. Myself and my older sister also decided to join in and see if we could not spend any unnecessary money in January.

As we all know, I would never be able to do this without some form of motivation. This time, I decided to go for something a bit more simple. It’s an app called Goal Tracker and it does just that. You can add as many goals as you need and then simply check the box, for the day, once the goal has been completed!

Myself and my husband have a joint account for all our bills but we haven’t added our own personal bills to that account (for example, my contact lens subscriptions, Glossy Box subscription, Spotify etc) so the first thing I did this morning was move all my direct debits over to that account. The second thing I will do is move all remaining money into a separate account so that I can clearly see what I have left, to save and not spend!

4. Blog more!

Finally, blogging. I might not get a lot of traffic but I really enjoy blogging. I like to look back and see what I did, what I enjoyed, what I didn’t. What I don’t want, is for blogging to become a chore, so I will continue to post as and when – at least once a week if I can, or once a month if weekly is too difficult! 2018 showed me that I do enjoy blogging reactions and events happening on social media, so this is something I am going to continue with
